The elusive vintage Porsche

In the 12 years I've been here, every year I see more Porsches. A sign of St. John's wealth no doubt. Although I'd love a new AWD 600 HP rocket, I have a deep respect for a well kept older german car. I once saw a green 60's 911 at Starbucks, 6 years ago. Never seen it since. This years vintage 911 was only barely in my rear view today. Targa top. Nice. Probably never see it again.

Cheap improvements

As much as I like the new rims, the Fast logo is not really working. I had a good vector BMW logo so i resized it and sent to a sign place I deal with. Flexible, durable and laminated. Did a couple bigger ones too, they might look ok on trunk and hood. Sign place did many extras for me so I can make lots of mistakes.

Spare parts and bimmer spotting

In a recent trip to BC, I tried my best to fetch some parts for the E30. I visited Bimmer Parts in Duncan, a BMW specialist auto wrecker. I could have spent hours there skulking around but the owner was a bit of a jittery fella who wouldn't let us in the back yard where all the disassembled cars sat. There were a number of whole E30s, E36 and E46's lying around in front so we nosed around them. The owner took my list of parts and ran off in the crowded garage, coming back with my requests one at a time. I hate the "desk order" auto wrecker thing and prefer to get my own stuff but you have to respect owners need to keep order. I would have liked to get much more but I did get a fuel pump, alternator bracket and some trim pieces I've waiting a long time to get.

The front of Bimmer Parts
BC, being salt-free has some fantastic condition old cars. This 318is was a standout. Vancouver Island, where Bimmer Parts is, had a lot of E30's. Didn't see a single 2002 though.

The Ferrari I found in Tokyo

So I was scanning around Tokyo via the 600,000 pixel bird's eye view image courtesy of 360gigapixels.com, looking in windows and stuff and although I haven't yet found any vintage bimmers, I did find a Ferrari.

Looking to waste some time and be amazed at technology, check it out here

E21 - 320i New in town?

I have only ever seen two other 320i's of this era in NF, one white driver in the Stavanger area and a silver garden ornament on the south coast. Saw this one today, looks like it was just dragged out of a field. Ontario plates. Clean that survivor up!

BMW 850i - First time I've seen one of these in the flesh

This one looks like it hasn't run in a while. Has Alberta plates. 12 cylinders sounds like fun. It's auto though. Prices for these seem to be all over the place, everywhere from $5k to $40k depending on many factors. Beautiful styling and luxury cruising.

My ride

Well, it's only fitting that the first post be my own car. 1986 BMW 325e, 5-speed, 6 cyl, 180k. Bought in Cornerbrook 3 years ago in un-cared-for condition. Since have done a lot of under the hood work, clutch, belts, all maintenance stuff and dealt with some hidden rust. The car will never be collector worthy, too many questionable rough spots but it's a blast to drive. Soon I'll have new wheels on, maybe lowered 1" and some other minor cosmetic things. The bumpers are horrible on this year and I hope to tuck them, but I need to find a local donor car for that, my bumper shocks are not serviceable. (hey maybe that's why I'm doing this blog after all, to connect with all you BMW folks).
